(also feel free in the tags to clarify Why you made the choice you made!! :0c)
#polls#tumblr polls#For me I think the top ones would be the House. The Money. or the Friend Group. But I ultimately might would go for the house#JUST becuase it would be my Dream House which means it would already meet mostly all of my specifications#and what I might be looking for. which would save a lot of time searching or customizing/rennovating.#Also because I could use that as a way to leave the US lol.. like .. if I get to choose my dream location.. couldnt I just choose some othe#country?? But I wonder how that works. Can you legally 100% have full ownership of a property in a country yet not be a citizen of that#country?? Would you show up and be like 'erm.. i own this house.. so i shall now live in it' and theyd be like 'uh no. you cant live here#despite owning the house. leave.' ??#So I think the initial process of 1. scraping together funds to actually MOVE myself and my most valuable belongings physically#TO another country. and 2. figuring out how to STAY in that country . might end up being difficult.. BUT. if I could just work that#part of things out then.. dream house?? security for once in my life?? stability?? :0#Though the $1mil is enticing it's also like.. I feel .. with the way housing prices are now... that's not much???#it's a lot I guess if you plan on like.. investing half the money and staying in an apartment for 5 years while you grow your wealth#or something. but if you're a 'I Need Stability NOW' ready to settle down person who would be most interested in owning a property rather#than nice clothes or a car or whatever other investments you could make then.. eh..?? It seems like unless you're okay with living in#a small town or kind of far away from the city - even some SMALL houses in majorly populated areas in the US will be like#$600.000 - $900.000 or something. like that would be MOST of my money. Which I know you could just pay partially and make#payments on it but idk.. in the option of just outright owning the house it seems like it'd end up being cheaper.#Plus I would want to own it fully asap because I'd be afraid of losing it somehow otherwise. like it being taken for medical bills or#something. which I thought was supposed to be - not IMPOSSIBLE - slightly more complicated legally if you actually have#paid off the house in full. I guess the issue then would be utilities and property tax and such. But I feel like thats overcome-able??#Like I could just stipulate that my Dream House has a little furnished addition or something and then find someone#with money and be like 'Look you can live in this extremely nice area with amazing ameneties and updated everything and ALL you have#to do is give me money to cover the utilities and property tax.'' or something like that. Like the little furnished addition is nicer#than the actual house. they have their own pool and spa and movie room or something and Ill also cook all their meals for them#or whatever (how luxurious it would be depeneds on how high the property tax actually is/how much I would need to entice them into#why it's a good deal for them to pay it for me lol). idk... something like that.. ANYWAY#I asked a few people I know though and one of them answered they'd rather have a romantic partner. the other one said they'd like#to be able to choose someone to die lol.. So I'm curious what people value the most

started planning out an actual real budget to see what sort of housing I could afford if I lived alone and it is. not great !
#i think i might still try to do it though#im purposefully not burning any bridges with my family so i can have a place to move back into if it doesnt work#but i make literally JUSTTT enough to afford it#with my retirement and life insurance i can afford to put away an extra $300 on top and have like $150 (MAYBE) left for the month#which. is less towards savings than i really want#because im trying to save for grad school a new car and a down payment#i did budget for $400 a month on groceries which doesnt include what i would get for food assistance or from food banks#which is a little bit more and helps me breathe a little#but this all hinges on my ability to find rental housing with all utilities included for 1k or under#there ARE some near me that have all or most included for less than that but obv until im actively looking to move out im not banking on any#sorry i know people dont like hearing money talk but i need to talk momey very frankly for 3-5 hours#after which i will promptly and unexpectedly burst into tears and thats how you know the conversation is over#im also an idiot dumbass and didnt really pay attention to how much i was spending on gas when i drove from the bigger city near me#(aka the place i will probably end up living)#i dont want to lower my savings though :( i like to save :( number go up#and also the idea that it could take me longer than 10 years to save up for a down payment fills me with teeth grinding rage#i want to live alone so badly i want to make it work#i have to remind myself that im rounding expenses up and paychecks down on purpose#but i also. dont know what the next step is?? i have it all saved already lmfao#i cant move out until august at the absolute earliest but like. because i live at home do i just. sit and wait? until i find a good place?#things happening in rapid succession scare me and it seems like the turn around for apartment touring -> moving in is very fast#i was 16 when i last moved idk how to do that!#but like. do they just. move the stuff in#yes this is exactly how moving works i know#i think really what i need to do is tell my parents in august that im going to move out#because if they're ready to move furniture then maybe the brain can take over and make decisions and sign contracts quickly#before the loser has time to even start getting freaky about things#any ghosts looking to be a second source of income

in boring adult annoyances, i recently converted my checking account to a different type of checking account with the same credit union. i've done this a couple times over the years cuz it's the same checking account my dad helped me set up when i was 13 and this CU is still my primary financial institution. asked the banker
"will my account number remain the same?"
"yes, we're just converting it to a different type of the same account!"
"so my direct deposit and autopays won't be impacted?"
"correct!"
"and i can still use the same debit card i've been using for the last ~6 years!"
"absolutely!"
"great, let's do it."
fast forward to this week, when three of my autopay bills bounced, my debit card isn't working, and a closer look at my account number shows a 1-digit change at the end. go back to the same branch like "hey no offense but what the fuck??"
different banker takes a look at my accounts, makes a Face, and politely casually asks "so where did you go to make the switch? :)"
"here, this branch. that person over there was actually the one who helped me."
The Face intensifies. ".....Ah. I See. well, it looks like the way the changes were made may have Disrupted some things. you're gonna need a new debit card, etc, i'll get that printed for you ASAP."
[5 minutes later the banker who fucked up the first transaction sheepishly approaches me to hand over my new debit card & apologize profusely.]

My mother confuses the fuck out of me
#i guess she's getting severance checks from her old job?#i mean fuck that's the least they could do after she worked there for 40 years#she only gets 900 a month from my dad's SSI survivor benefits#she went from saying we're struggling financially to suddenly offering to pay for shit i need#that kinda scares me because i think that means she's impulsively spending her savings. which could mean she thinks she's gonna die soon#she's 64 and my dad died at almost 63#like she helped my sister buy my niece a car. it's a 24 year old vehicle and only costed 4k and she paid 2k but 2k is a LOT to us#she said she's been saving my rent money to fix my car for the past couple of months on top of me saving for it#which means we definitely have the money to fix everything by now#but that's not happening all my tires still need to be replaced my ac doesn't work it's making clinking sounds#it stalled while i was driving the other day but turning it off and restarting it fixes it#anyway. the thing is I'm always sus about my mom offering shit.#she likes to hold shit over your head.#I'm very worried that she's gonna fix my car and then use that to control me in some way. because that's how it is every time.#but like.....it's better than not having the help. fuck.#i feel so privileged despite how broke and disabled i am. bc most disabled people dont have this to fall back on#the craziest thing is that the only reason we have this house is bc of my grandparents' inheritance#and neither of them went to college my grandpa was in the army#and my grandma only temporarily worked for jc penney as a bookkeeper#side note my 80 year old grandma was better with computers than most elderly people are today#just from that job? from what i know#when she died my family sold the family house and that's how we put the down payment on this house#which btw only costed 64k in 2012 apparently it's worth 175k now according to zillow#but like. how. i feel like my family being white and christian is the only reason we have all this privilege#i have a headache bye#.bdo

ALSO OMG?????
Thank you guys so so so much for your help with Kaine's vet bills <3!!!!!!!!!!! We're about halfway there for covering it all. Like you guys know, I've been unemployed for a while and even at my last job with the hours i was getting I would have to pay with three weeks of pay. The job search is not going as good as I hope, so this all went on my credit card and I can't keep piling money on that with no back up plan, so your help is incredible and I can't thank you guys enough.
Big big love from me and my big baby. If he could type I'm sure he'd say thank you too. I'll post a picture of him in his donut for your viewing pleasure.

Between a giant car repair in January, my depression and anxiety coming for me like it's their job, being a part of an inventory team that goes around doing them once a week at different stores, starting a class, my migraines getting worse lately, AND the fact that my car now needs an even bigger repair in April? I feel like 2024 is out to get me.
I don't know what the fuck I did in a past life to gain its ire but I'm so fucking done right now.

Step-by-Step Financial Plan to Buy a Home in a Metro City
Tumblr media
1. Define Your Budget
Research Property Prices in your target metro city (e.g., Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune).
Account for all costs, not just the property price:
Registration + Stamp Duty (5–8%)
Brokerage
Home loan processing fee
Interiors / furniture
Moving costs
Example: For a ₹1 Cr flat, actual total cost can go up to ₹1.1–1.2 Cr.
2. Check Your Affordability
Use the 28/36 rule:
Max 28% of your gross income should go to home loan EMI.
Total EMIs (home + other loans) should not exceed 36%.
Example: If your monthly salary is ₹1,50,000 → safe EMI: ₹42,000
3. Check Loan Eligibility
Banks usually fund up to 75–90% of property cost.
You need to arrange 10–25% down payment + extra charges.
For ₹1 Cr property: Down payment of ₹20–25 lakh
4. Start Saving for Down Payment
Set a target and timeline (e.g., ₹25L in 3 years → ~₹70,000/month)
Use a mix of:
SIPs in Mutual Funds (for returns)
RD/FD (for safety near goal time)
Avoid risky investments like crypto or stocks if goal is short term
5. Build Emergency Fund
Keep 6 months of expenses aside even after you buy.
Owning a home comes with new expenses (repairs, maintenance, society charges).
6. Improve Your Credit Score
A 750+ CIBIL score ensures better interest rates.
Pay EMIs, credit cards on time; avoid multiple loans or credit inquiries.
7. Factor in Additional Costs
Monthly EMI
Society maintenance
Property tax
Utility bills (especially if bigger space or gated complex)
8. Compare Loan Options
Look for:
Lowest interest rate (check both public and private banks)
Tenure flexibility (longer = lower EMI, more interest paid)
Prepayment/foreclosure charges
Use home loan calculators on bank websites
9. Consider Joint Ownership
If you’re married, both incomes can be used for higher loan eligibility.
Both partners can also get tax benefits under 80C and 24(b).
10. Tax Planning
Home loan gives tax deductions:
Up to ₹1.5L under Sec 80C (principal)
Up to ₹2L under Sec 24 (interest)
First-time homebuyers may get additional benefits under Section 80EE/EEA
Tip: Should You Rent or Buy?
Calculate Rent vs Buy over 10–15 years.
In many metros, renting is cheaper in short-term, but owning builds equity long-term.
Would you like me to create a custom financial plan based on your income, city, and budget? Just share a few details or directly connect with us.
Your monthly income
Target city (e.g., Mumbai, Bangalore)
Timeline to buy (e.g., 3 years)
Current savings (if any)
